Misa update

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Misa has lived with us for a little more than a week. She’s avoiding us more for every day. But she lied in bed with us and purred last night. She even laid on top of my legs (on top of the duvet cover), but she spent most of the time in the bed on a big pillow behind Robin’s head. She does this only if she thinks that we’re not aware of her presence.

I’m doing my best just to ignore her right now, and see if she’ll feel more secure around us humans. She’s normal as long as we don’t look at her. She walks like a prima-donna-like walking style when she thinks we don’t watch her. She makes the strangest sounds when she plays. Sounds like someone is strangling her, but she looks happy…

Here are some gorgeous spy photos of her.

Happy birthday Mokona!

Mokona is one years old today! We are so proud of him!

Sleepy Pod

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Everytime I meet a dog or cat person I get a compliment for the sleepypod. They touch it and ask where I found it, and how much it cost and where they could buy it. That’s why I’m writing this post.

We have two black sleepy pods; a small one that fits under the seat in front of you in an airplane, and a big one that the cat will use as a bed for many years. The sleepy pod is a pet carrier and a bed. Everyone loves this product, both small animals and people. The top comes of easily with a zipper and you can remove and machine wash the fluff inside and add a heat pad. There are a lot of possibilities with this brilliant bed carrier. Mokona sleeps in his sleepypod every day so it’s much easier to get him in to the carrier when we need to e.g. go to the vet.

So is it all good? Yes, a part from that’s it’s a little big tiresome to carry the big pod with a cat inside for more than 10 minutes, if you’re weak as I am. But you can carry it in two ways; you can use the strap over your shoulder or the handle on the pod. It’s perfect for the train, car, cab and bus. The carrier comes in various colours: black, brown, blue, white, red and pink. But the inside is always black. For now anyways.

Where to buy?

The official website is sleepypod.com and you can order your sleepypod from there. The shipping however is deadly expensive! I would order from Amazon, eBay or some other retail store. If you want to buy a heat pad for the pod, you need to get the right charger for your country, or it won’t work.

Germany: Amazon, eBay
USA: Amazon, eBay

If you’re german, I’d recommend you to order from eBay.de or amazon.de because you can get a sleepypod with free shipping instead of paying $100 for shipping at sleepypod.com. I also recommend you Americans to order from eBay.com and Amazon.com because of the cheap or free shipping.

How much does it cost?

The large pod cost about
$150 in USA
€200 in Europe

The mini pod cost about
$100 in USA
€190 in Europe

Is it worth the price? Yes I think it’s a really good product. Your cats won’t be uncomfortable around it. It’s super fluffy that keeps its original fluff after you’ve washed it in the washing machine. The quality is just amazing and it looks beautiful. This is the best investment for my cats. You don’t have to replace it unless your small dog or cat grows too big for it. But keep it under 7 kg and you’ll be fine. I highly recommend the sleepypod!

Etsy finds

Etsy is a great place for finding pretty things for your home, pets and body. I’m amazed by the hidden hollow tree (pic 6) and I know how much my cats would love it. But it’s really big and they only ship it inside the US, but it’s a great find! Etsy is a great place.

My favorite pet items on Etsy

1) Organic Catnip Maki Sushi Toy
2) Ivory designer dog bed
3) Kitty toy
4) Rufus Mulberry the Mulberry Cat
5) Cat Tree House
6) Fantasy Cat Furniture – Hidden Hollow
7) Handknit felted wool art vessel
8) Rabbit Fur Balls
9) Handmade Wool Balls (for cats and very small dogs)

Morning routines

~The cats wake me up early in the morning. I check my emails, comments at Flickr, forums and blogs

~I wake Robin and we’re making coffee while feeding the cats breakfast

~We watch some series on the projector in the living room for about an hour

~One of us builds one or several huts out of blankets, pillows, cardboard boxes with holes in them around and on the sofas in the living room. The cats play there until they get tired and fall asleep somewhere in the huts

Misa loves this game. We’ve had this morning routine since long before she arrived and Mokona is soooo pleased his new playmate!

Day four – progress!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Misa started to explore her new home last night while we were having some friends over. She acts so tough around Mokona and it’s hilarious and cute at the same time. Mokona wants her to run, I guess he’s trying to teach her to chase him, because it’s the most amusing game he knows.

Misa spent a lot of time in the top of the cat tree playing with Mokona who was pushing his paws against her and trying to catch her tail. I think they’ve been playing all night, and Misa is trying to get some sleep. She went back under a bed – first in the guest room, but she’s under the bed in our bedroom now.

I’m glad that the cats got some time of their own to get to know each other. The most important thing is that I trust Mokona to not play too rough. I trust Misa to let him know when she wants to be alone. Every time she calls for Mokona, he’s there. They won’t have to be lonely ever again and that makes me very happy. They seem to amuse one another! We noticed that Misa starts purring when she sees Mokona. I couldn’t wish for more.

misa is so brave!
