Back from the vet

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We had an appointment for castration at the vet at 10 am. It’s just a 10 minutes walk and Mokona seemed pretty curious. We passed several dogs and a cat. We also passed the pet store where I buy his food and litter sand, and he got to meow at a rabbit in the window. We were greeted by the doctor and his assistant and they were super nice and thought that Mokona was a very nice cat. They really liked his sleepypod and wrote down the name of the brand.

Mokona was calm but a little anxious when we put him on the table. He wanted to go back in to his pod, but he didn’t resist. Everything was over in 15 minutes.

He’s lying on a bed sheet in the office by the open balcony door and a glass of water. His paws are cold and his eyes are open. It hurts to see him like this. I really hope he won’t change his personality. I don’t care if he gets fat, but I don’t want him to be scared of strangers, or become nervous when people touch him.

He will stay unconscious for 4 to 5 hours. I will blink his eyes every now and then, and I’m keeping an eye on him the whole time so he breathes and is ok. Stay tuned for an update.

Poor Mokona has an appointment for castration tomorrow. He’s peeing on every piece of clothes or fabric he can find, plus he’s extremely frustrated and loud and demands food like 4-6 times a day. He walks around all night meowing and doing god knows what.

He got his last meal for the evening already, and he has to wait to eat until he’s woken up from the surgery. The vet is real close and he’ll be home in no time. My heart aches when I think about what a horrible surprise it will be for him tomorrow, but I will try to play it cool so he doesn’t suspect anything. Oh, how he hates surprises =;_____;=

Update

Friday, June 19th, 2009

He’s getting more affectionate but he still needs a lot of space. He’s started to mark his territory on clothes on the floor and in the laundry basket. So I think it’s time to take care of those fluffy balls… poor Mokona. But we all knew it would happen eventually. I asked Robin to take care of this.

As I’ve written before, Mokona is pretty restless, and not even close to as happy as he were during the time Isis was here. We’ll wait until December to decide if we should add a brother or sister cat to the family. I’d love to get another Russian from the same breeder because I haven’t seen a more beautiful Russian anywhere else to be honest. But I have no idea if she plans to have kittens any time soon.

New scratching post

He’s very happy for this scratching post and we keep it in the office for the time being.

Mokona in the office

So what’s new? Mokona is a very cool cat. He possesses great skills in high jumps and hyper speed running (with loud paws like a mini horse!). He’s incredibly talk active and he doesn’t stop talking just because he has to yawn in the middle of a sentence.

He’s hanging around the office most of the time when we work, walking around on the desks, playing in the temporary huts I build from time to time. He has a lot of different cardboard boxes he likes to hide in but most of all he wants to be chased and wrestle. So he screams until we chase him. And it’s the same procedure every time; he runs in to the living room, hides behind the couch or under it, with half of his body outside. If he’s doing that he want’s us to just push his little rabbit legs.
