We are sick…..

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

The cats have both been under the weather lately. Both of them had high fever and diarrhea (misa was worse) so we went to the vet today. They have infections in their intestines, so they’re in pain… they should be well again in a week after taking medication and eating another type of food, so we’ll go back to the vet in seven days.

They’re sleeping as I write. I think they got tired from the first medication.

Day four – progress!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Misa started to explore her new home last night while we were having some friends over. She acts so tough around Mokona and it’s hilarious and cute at the same time. Mokona wants her to run, I guess he’s trying to teach her to chase him, because it’s the most amusing game he knows.

Misa spent a lot of time in the top of the cat tree playing with Mokona who was pushing his paws against her and trying to catch her tail. I think they’ve been playing all night, and Misa is trying to get some sleep. She went back under a bed – first in the guest room, but she’s under the bed in our bedroom now.

I’m glad that the cats got some time of their own to get to know each other. The most important thing is that I trust Mokona to not play too rough. I trust Misa to let him know when she wants to be alone. Every time she calls for Mokona, he’s there. They won’t have to be lonely ever again and that makes me very happy. They seem to amuse one another! We noticed that Misa starts purring when she sees Mokona. I couldn’t wish for more.

Welcome to the Gavin family, Misa

We went to Neutrebbin to visit little Misa. We stayed for two hours and Misa liked us a lot. She was purring and looked at us all the time. But she’s a very shy cat.

Neutrebbin is about 1:45 hours with train from Friedrischain and it was a hot day. So Misa was very hot and thirsty and the trip seemed to never end. But she was calm and cute.

When we arrived home I put her in the bedroom without letting Mokona see her. They have spoken through the door and she’s a bit curious about him, but not afraid – yet. Mokona goes to the bedroom door to listen a few times per hour. I think he’ll become a great big brother for her! Mokona seems happy and curious about the whole situation.

Misa has been under the bed since she arrived yesterday, so I haven’t been able to take any photos of her. But she’s fine! She’s been eating, drinking (a lot!) and she’s been using the litter box. I’m so proud of her. Whenever we go in to the bedroom, he starts purring. I hope that’s a sign of well being. I know that some cats purr to relief stress or pain. But I’m just being paranoid. She seems happy, but shy to her new environment.

Last week as a single cat?

First time away from home

Mokona lived with Daniel when we were in Sweden. Daniel enjoyed his company, but Mokona seemed a bit depressed. He ate and went to the litterbox during the nights only, and stayed under Daniel’s duvet in the bedroom all day.

He was very happy to come home again so he could run around like a crazy cat through all the rooms and jump up in his tree again. He started to do his business in the litterboxes again during the day, also playing and eating. He doesn’t scold us anymore. He goes to bed at the same time as we are and let us wake him up in the morning with cuddles and praises.

Last week as a single cat?

We fell in love with this little girl, and will go and visit her this Saturday. She’s a lilac Scottish fold and 14 weeks old. Scottish folds are incredible cute and we always watched a whole lot of youtube clips of folds that play with paper bags and sleep on their backs.

The day after the castration

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

I found him under the kitchen table early this morning, and carried him to the bedroom. Seems like something’s not right with his eyes. If he’s not better tomorrow I’ll go back to the veterinarian. He’s still tired today, but at least he gets to keep what he eats. Robin made him ice water which Mokona loves!

I felt so sorry for Mokona this morning that I cried a little. Poor little thing. I didn’t know that a castration would be so painful. But I hope that he’ll be himself again soon. He’s awfully quiet and calm. But he almost started to chase a fly this morning.

He’s lying next to me on my desk as I write this post (see the last picture in this post) and he seems to be fine. His eyes are not as bad as earlier. He’s moving a little faster.

Sleeping the whole day

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

It was a really bad day for Mokona yesterday, the day of castration. He got the anaesthesia at 10 am and woke up the first time about three hours after the surgery, but just for a minute or so. He wanted to change his position from time to time, but he was pretty knocked out until I fell asleep at 1 am.

I think he was lying under the kitchen table rail style all night, watching out from the balcony windows. He hasn’t been speaking, but he’s been drinking and trying to eat. Everything he consumed yesterday came up again and it was yellow.

It was a very hot day but he wanted to sleep out at the balcony, so I rigged an umbrella and a fan, so he wouldn’t be too hot.

Back from the vet

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We had an appointment for castration at the vet at 10 am. It’s just a 10 minutes walk and Mokona seemed pretty curious. We passed several dogs and a cat. We also passed the pet store where I buy his food and litter sand, and he got to meow at a rabbit in the window. We were greeted by the doctor and his assistant and they were super nice and thought that Mokona was a very nice cat. They really liked his sleepypod and wrote down the name of the brand.

Mokona was calm but a little anxious when we put him on the table. He wanted to go back in to his pod, but he didn’t resist. Everything was over in 15 minutes.

He’s lying on a bed sheet in the office by the open balcony door and a glass of water. His paws are cold and his eyes are open. It hurts to see him like this. I really hope he won’t change his personality. I don’t care if he gets fat, but I don’t want him to be scared of strangers, or become nervous when people touch him.

He will stay unconscious for 4 to 5 hours. I will blink his eyes every now and then, and I’m keeping an eye on him the whole time so he breathes and is ok. Stay tuned for an update.
